Democratic women's group's holiday wish: A break from Donald Trump

EMILY's List wants to make the holidays great again by giving America a break from Donald Trump. And the group, — focused on electing female Democratic candidates to public office — wants to enlist Trump's Republican rivals to help.

In an open letter posted on Medium, the group said Trump went "too far" when he said that Hillary Clinton "got 'schlonged'" during her failed 2008 presidential campaign.

Donald Trump "needs to stop," Jess McIntosh, the group's vice president, wrote in a letter addressed to the rest of the GOP field. "We agree with you about almost nothing, but we agree with you about this." Read more...

Hillary Clinton says she’s your abuela. Twitter says nope.

Hillary Clinton's campaign is facing backlash online over a post aimed at Spanish-speaking voters.

"7 ways Hillary Clinton is just like your abuela," a new post on the Clintons campaign's website that shows a photo of Clinton and former president Bill Clinton holding their granddaughter, Charlotte, declares the Democratic presidential candidate "isn't afraid to talk about the importance of el respeto," the Spanish word for respect.

The post also includes a list of quotes, GIFs and photos of Clinton, including one from a speech earlier this year in front of the National Council of La RazaDuring that speech, Clinton promised to champion "real" immigration reform, and said she had "just one word for Donald Trump: '¡Basta!'" Lucky kitten saved from storm drain after 33-hour rescue mission

Faint sounds of a kitten in distress lead a few concerned citizens to a storm drain in a California parking lot on Sunday. But their attempts to coax the animal out of the drain with food were unsuccessful.

Eventually, with help from David Loop of Sierra Pacific FurBabies, an animal rescue non-profit, a team of rescuers were dispatched and determined that the kitten was stuck in a small 8-inch pipe.

Kentucky governor removes clerks' names from marriage licenses after same-sex dispute

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin signed an executive order on Tuesday for new marriage licenses statewide that will no longer require county clerks' names to appear on them.

The name removal is an attempt to protect the religious beliefs of Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis and other local elected officials, according to Bevin, now that same-sex marriage is legal across the nation.

Kentucky has been at the center of controversy after Davis refused to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples, despite a historic Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriages across the country.

10-year-old is pissed her parents 'ruined her life' by revealing the truth about Santa

Learning the truth about Santa Claus is never easy, but sometimes it's just downright infuriating.

When Maryland mom Nicki Adams and her husband told their daughter, Belle, that Santa wasn't real, the 10-year-old was positively livid.

Adams posted to her Facebook page about the conversation, along with a photo of the note she and her husband received from Belle

"The time has finally come," Adams wrote. "Belle asked point blank about Santa and she's been asking every day. Toyota's planned digital video maps are like a realtime Google Street View

Tesla might be using Model S cars to make GPS maps, but Toyota is about to rollout a veritable real-time Google Street View.

Toyota announced Tuesday that it will unveil a new system of "high-precision" mapping at the Consumer Electronic Show next month. The mapping system will utilize the high-definition digital cameras — in addition to GPS units — embedded in countless numbers of its cars already on the road today.

The video and GPS data gathered will be beamed to Toyota data centers, "where it is automatically pieced together, corrected and updated to generate high precision road maps that cover a wide area," according to the Toyota press release. Read more...

To the delight of conservationists, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Monday that it would grant protection under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) to two subspecies of African lion

It’s a decision that’s been in the making for at least four years now. However, attention to the issue sharpened significantly this year after the death of Cecil the lion — who was shot and killed by a U.S. citizen in July — drew international attention to the ethics of trophy hunting

Now, a subspecies of lion found in western and central Africa and parts of India, which likely only numbers about 1,400 individuals in all, will receive “endangered” status under the ESA. China's lunar rover finds a new kind of moon rock

The first Chinese mission to softly land on the surface of the moon has discovered a new kind of volcanic moon rock.

This finding marks the first time in about 40 years that a new discovery has confirmed from the surface of the moon.

The rock samples were taken from Chang'e-3's landing site in the Imbrium basin — a dark impact site filled with hardened lava that can be seen from Earth, according to Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, one of the organizations that analyzed the data beamed back from the mission

China's Chang'e-3 lander launched to the moon's surface in 2013 and deployed the Yutu rover — the robot responsible for this new discovery — shortly afterwards. The rover has been immobile for some time, though was still sending pings to Earth as late as October of 2015, China's state-run Xinhua news agency said. Read more...
